Former British tennis star
Tim Henman has backed Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic to shine at the
French Open. The 36-year-old is often regarded
as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having
won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic is going through a difficult 2024 season where he
is yet to play in a final of any event. Former Britain’s number one Henman was
recently quoted in a report where he backed the reigning world number one to
shine at the mega-event and suggested that he is a perfect example of ‘class is
permanent’.
“This is a classic case of form is temporary, class is
permanent,” said Henman. “With his experience, Djokovic doesn’t need to worry
about what’s gone on in the last four or five months, he can just focus on his
first-round match. This can click for him in the space of a couple of sets. He
loves the challenge of dealing with adversity, when he’s the enemy with the
crowd against him. That’s when his focus, his concentration, is even greater. I
don’t buy into any of the stats coming into this tournament. He knows what it
takes better than anyone to win Grand Slams and if he can get through the first
couple of matches, he’s still one of the favourites.”
