Jannik Sinner lifted his first Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open on his favorite surface, hard court. Now he returns to it for the US Open, where he will be one of the great favorites.
He has just won the Cincinnati Open but it has also come to light that he tested positive for doping twice last March. We will see how he reacts mentally and if he is capable of not thinking about it to perform at his best level and succeed in New York.
In the first round he will face Mackenzie McDonald. In the second round, his opponent should be Alex Michelsen, although it could also be a player from the qualifying round. In the third round, it would be the first match in which he would not have to face a local player. The options are between Nicolas Jarry and Stan Wawrinka, who has already won the tournament but is no longer in his best years.
In the fourth, the first big difficulty would come. It could be Arthur Fils but also Tommy Paul, who has already been a Grand Slam semifinalist on hard court and plays at home, a very tough nut to crack. In the quarterfinals he has the worst run of the favorites for the title. He would have to face Daniil Medvedev, one of the players who has performed better at Flushing Meadows in recent years, or Stefanos Tsitsipas.
In the semis, there is the option of Hubert Hurkacz, who arrives with many doubts due to his physical problems in recent weeks, or Carlos Alcaraz, his rival par excellence and with whom he already had an epic duel that was marked in history in 2022. Finally, in the final the great candidate would be Novak Djokovic but Casper Ruud, Holger Rune and especially Alexander Zverev could be in the equation.
