Chris Evert expects Dominic Thiem to be much better in the second half of 2023 as he's still trying to get his confidence back at this part of the season.
Thiem largely disappointed in the first part of the season losing far many matches that he won. The Austrian has started to win matches recently however it's still far from the way many expected him to perform this year after making a decent comeback last year. Evert believes that he will be much better in the second half after using this first part to build up his confidence:
"I know we missed him a lot and that he is a very talented player, a great attraction for our sport and I am glad to see him back. I think he's looking better and better, lately you see him win a few games and he's still in the process of getting his confidence back. That's exactly what he needs."
She added:
“You can't take a year off the circuit and all of a sudden jump into a tournament and accept everything that's going to happen. You have to work your way back from the bottom, and [know] that you still want to win. You have that incentive, that motivation and I don't see any reason why you can't get back to that level. Everything is there. For confidence, he needs to play a huge number of matches. Maybe around the US Open he will be better than he is now."
