The PTPA lawsuit has gone in depth in terms of what the players have brought to the table and bizarrely one of their points relates to a certain Holger Rune as part of the 163 page document.
Holger Rune was cited on several occasions including to do with his involvement in the so-called Six Kings Slam. The PTPA claimed in the document that rules outlawing players from being involved in exhibitions or non-governing body sanctioned events during Grand Slams should be outlawed.
They suggest that those eliminated early from the Grand Slam tournaments including Wimbledon, Roland Garros, Australian Open and US Open should be able to play elsewhere. The PTPA cited Rune as an instance of a player getting such a benefit of gaining big money rather than playing on the tour.
“For example, Holger Rune played at the Six Kings Slam, the only player invited to the Saudi Arabian exhibition who had never won a Grand Slam, and the only player ranked outside the ATP top 10. However, Rune has 'long been touted as a future rival for Sinner and Alcaraz," the document cited.
Rune despite not being a Grand Slam champion is a former top five player and has made over $9million in earnings at 21. He may take issue with being in the lawsuit as he would be looking to be in the latter end of the Grand Slams not playing in the second week.
But Rune who was criticised at the time for being involved in the first place seemingly has had his involvement come back to bite him. While it is big news though, the WTA called the case baseless and that it diverts away from their mission while having to fight it.
"Contesting this baseless legal case will divert time, attention, and resources from our core mission to the detriment of our players and the sport as a whole."
PTPA insinuating that Rune is privileged and whining about his participation in Six Kings & being compared with Carlos & Jannik is one of the most hilarious parts of the lawsuit. 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/w38jwNSyGb
