Holger Rune had a statmenet win in his first match at the
Rome Open beating rising start from France
Arthur Fils in two simple sets 6-3 6-3.
Rune has been playing really well at times although his Madrid Open experience ended quickly. The start in Rome looked much better as he proved much better than fellow youngster Arthur Fils who tried to put up a good fight but ultimately he was largely overmatched. Both players played quite aggressively and posted similar stats but Rune was a bit better.
He chose his spots better, he was more precise when attacking and he had more winners and fewer errors. He also served better overall making it easier for himself to win points and rallies. He also showed great anticipation in the way he approached the match knowing exactly what to do and how to attack Fils.
The winning condition was him being more stable in the baseline rallies and he did it. A good match to get familiar with the conditions but expect things to get a bit harder from now on. 15 winners and two aces from Rune in this very solid performance.
