Denmark’s tennis star Holger Rune will be playing in the upcoming
ABN Amro Open in 2024. The development was announced on the competition’s page
on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter.
The 20-year-old will become the third player from the top-10
players category to have shown their availability for the tournament. In the
2022 edition, Rune was knocked out of the competition after having to retire in the
round of 16 tie to Gijs Brouwer of the Netherlands.
The tournament was eventually won by the current world number
three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev who defeated the world number four Italy’s
Jannik Sinner in the final with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Rune will be hoping that he will be able to start 2024 on a high
after a more decent end to 2023 where he produced some impressive
performances. In the recently concluded ATP Finals in Turin, he could not qualify
for the semifinal and ended up winning one out of three matches and lost two
matches.
Both matches against Italy’s Jannik Sinner and the current
world number one Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic went to the
third round and on both occasions, Rune ended up as second-best.
