Novak Djokovic's father, Srdjan has taken issue with what he believes to be undermining of his son's accomplishments after he reached 400 weeks as World No.1.
Djokovic recently sealed the season-ender and a seventh ATP Finals title surpassing Roger Federer as a result. He also became the year-end World No.1 for an eighth time with 400 weeks atop the standings.
However, Srdjan believes that there is a double standard at play, and that is that Roger Federer is hailed as the greatest for 310 weeks on top, while Djokovic isn't given the same acclaim.
"For 15 years, he has been the best in the world in all possible categories. And of course, that annoys them all and they are unable to admit that he is the best in the world. Here, for example, Federer was the best for many years with 310 weeks," he said (via Sportal).
He also pointed to Steffi Graf being brought up when he reached a certain point for having 377 weeks on top of the rankings as well as pre Open Era records being used. But his father who has often been outspoken said that his son will reach 500 weeks on top of the rankings and surpass the records that he believes he is being prevented from celebrating.
"When Novak caught up with him, they invented "oh, no, Steffi Graf has 370 and something weeks." Steffi also passed, so they invented someone from before the Open era, who has 500 and something weeks... Well, you want to will it be in those 500 or so weeks? Well, it will be.," he added.
