Former world number six Nikola Pilic has expressed his anger
after
Goran Ivanisevic was once again not named the Coach of the Year.
The 52-year-old has been working with the current world number
one
Novak Djokovic for a long time and played a key role in his success over
the years as well. Last year, the 36-year-old had another fabulous season at
the highest level where he ended up winning three out of four Grand Slams.
Despite that unmatched success, the Coach of the Year was
awarded to the coach of Italy’s Jannik Sinner during the ATP awards. Pilic, who
also worked with Djokovic as a coach in the past, was recently quoted in a
report where expressed his anger about the decision as according to him, there
is no coach other than Ivanisevic who deserves the award more.
"Janik Sinner is a good player, but he has not won any
Grand Slam," he said. "And now his coach, Australian Darren Cahill,
gets the trophy as the best coach, not Goran? So how far does it go, tell me?!
"We rarely hear from each other, we mostly communicate
via SMS messages. I won't bother him. A million people bother him. It is
primarily about congratulations. Well done Novak, you are the best."
