Former world number one
Justine Henin has criticised Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev for his outburst during the
Monte-Carlo Masters. In a video
that was shared on the social media platform, the 28-year-old was recently involved
in a heated exchange with the match official about the changeover during the round
of 32 to Gael Monfils.
Henin, who won seven Grand Slam titles in her illustrious
career, was recently quoted in a report where he criticised the reaction of the
current men’s world number four and highlighted how the Russian tennis star is
dealing with a ‘lack of self-control’.
“How is it possible to put yourself in this state? Frankly,
it’s very limited,” she said. “Of course, a refereeing error is never pleasant.
But the players themselves fail quite a few times during a match, making quite
a few mistakes. It remains human. This lack of self-control in these moments
remains quite impressive.”
Medvedev went on to win the contest in straight sets with a
score of 6-2, 6-4. He is now set to face off Karen Khachanov in the round of 16
clash on Thursday. It will be the seventh time when the two players will face
off. In the previous six meetings, the one-time Grand Slam winner had a clear
edge with five wins and suffered just one defeat. Khachanov’s only win against Medvedev in 2018 in Moscow with a score of 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.
