World number one Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic has appeared in the
Euro League basketball match.
The 36-year-old is currently spending some time off and is
not taking part in the highly competitive ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters.
Despite his absence from a mega-event, Djokovic appeared in
a basketball match with his father in Basel.
The Serbian legendary tennis star is often regarded as the
greatest player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having
won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
His most recent triumph came in New York last month where he
defeated the world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in straight sets with
a score of 6–3, 7–6(7–5), 6–3 to lift the US Open for the fourth time.
That victory was another testament to Djokovic’s greatness
as he once again managed to win three out of the four Grand Slams this year.
His only defeat in a mega event in 2023 came in the final of
Wimbledon where he lost to Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set
thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Djokovic will now
turn his attention towards the Australian Open which is his most successful
competition. He has already lifted the title in Melbourne 10 times.
