Belgium’s tennis player
Maryna Zanevska expressed sorrow
after an alleged Russian missile killed at least 50 civilians in Ukraine.
Both European countries are still engaged in an armed
conflict that started back in February 2022, which has resulted in the loss of
lives on both sides.
Zanevska, who was born in Ukraine, posted an emotional message
on the social media platform Instagram, expressing sadness about the incident.
"Today, every time I see how Russia keeps killing
Ukrainians people, I am zone out," she wrote in an Instagram story.
As per the media report, there were allegedly 60 people
present in the vicinity where an alleged Russian rocket was hit.
The conflict’s impact has also been felt in the world of
tennis, especially amongst the women players.
Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina refused to shake hands with the players
from Russia and Belarus until the war came to an end and every Russian soldier
left their neighboring country’s land.
She ended up not having a handshake with the former world
number one Victoria Azarenka and the current top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka in
Wimbledon.
Svitolina remained very
vocal about her stance during the event where she stated: “I already said
multiple times that until Russian troops are out of Ukraine and we take back
our territories, [I’m] not going to shake hands. So I have clear statement. I
don’t know how more clear I can be.”
