The 2025 Japan Open will be one of the two ATP 500 events of the Asian swing and will be played from September 24 to 30. Its main stars will include world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Holger Rune, who will travel quickly after the Laver Cup to be ready for the start of the tournament.
It is the longest-running event on the Tour, since its first edition in 1972, and has produced great champions, such as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray. The 2024 event had a historic edition with an all-French final, in which Arthur Fils saved a championship point to overcome Ugo Humbert in a three-set battle.
This time the event will not have its defending champion, Arthur Fils, in addition to the absence of other significant players who had been confirmed at the beginning—including Ben Shelton and Jack Draper.
Several more players who were at the Laver Cup will join the tournament: Alex Michelsen, Casper Ruud, and alternates Tomas Machac and Jenson Brooksby. Other names of interest will be Denis Shapovalov, Frances Tiafoe, Matteo Berrettini, and Sebastian Korda.
In the USA, the tournament will be shown in full on Tennis Channel. Sky Sports will show the tournament in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, South Tyrol, Italy, San Marino, and Vatican City. While in Australia it is shown on beIN Sports, in New Zealand it is shown on DAZN.
beIN Sports also shows the event in France. Canal+ ordinarily shows the tournaments in Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia but all are out of the reckoning for this tournament as well as Nottingham, Iasi, Sao Paolo, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Jiujiang. Eleven Sports shows the event in Portugal.
