The Briton Cameron Norrie played in only one quarter-final in the entire 2020, matching that feat already at his first event of the new season.
Norrie took down Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 35 minutes, beating the Frenchman for the third time in four encounters. Cameron got broken twice and secured five breaks of serve to control the scoreboard, overcoming the second set deficit to seal the deal in straight sets. The Briton scored three breaks in the opening set for 6-2, playing well on both serve and return before Mannarino bounced back at the beginning of the second top open a 3-0 lead. Norrie erased the deficit and grabbed 12 of the final 15 points to move over the top with a break at 5-5.
Hubert Hurkacz was too strong for Daniel Elahi Galan, forging a 6-2, 6-2 triumph in swift 59 minutes. The Pole lost nine points in eight service games, fended off the only break chance and stole half of the return points that provided four breaks and an easy day at the office.
The former champion
Frances Tiafoe toppled Bjorn Fratangelo 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in an hour and 49 minutes, losing ground a bit in set number two and bouncing back strongly in the decider to advance into the quarters.
A qualifier Roberto Quiroz ousted the veteran
Ivo Karlovic 6-2, 6-4 in 59 minutes, dropping only five points behind the initial shot and stealing the Croat's serve thrice to advance into the first ATP quarter-final. At 28, Quiroz is yet to play in the main draw at a Major, and he came to Delray Beach with only one victory at the ATP tournaments.
