Andy Murray is out of the
Moselle Open in Metz after getting beaten by
Hubert Hurkacz in straight-set 7-6(4) 6-3.
This match was eerily similar to the one they played in Cinncinnati which Hurkacz also won in straight sets. Just like taht set the match featured a very closely contested opening set that ended in a tiebreak. Like that match, Murray was holding his serve with relative ease especially today when his serve was working extremely well.
Hurkacz was struggling to put a lot of serves into the court and Murray stormed through his games. That changed in the tiebreak as Murray made some mistakes that he did not make earlier. The Brit was frustrated throughout the set with the inability to hit some shots the way he wanted and that frustration boiled over in the tiebreak.
Hurkacz won it with 7-4 on a lucky net tip which frustrated Murray even more. Clearly titled by the tiebreak Murray underperformed in the 2nd set and the Polish player was able to control the match rather easily. He continued serving well while also applying better pressure on Murray. In the end, he broke the Brit once and that proved enough to win the 2nd set with 6-3.
A great run by Murray in Metz that should bring him confidence going forward. For Hurkacz it was a solid win and much needed after a rough several months.
