Hubert Hurkacz was down 1-2 vs Medvedev when the match resumed today after it got suspended last night but he came back to win 2-6 7-6(2) 3-6 6-3 6-3.
The Polish player benefitted from the rest and he came out extremely focused and broke Medvedev right away. The result upon suspension was 2-6 7-6(2) 3-6 4-3 and Hurkacz was able to make it 5-3 right away. After that, he served out the set with 6-3.
Medvedev was not looking as sharp as he looked last night and it took him some time to find a rhythm. However, that proved costly as Hurkacz was able to break him once more early in the 5th set giving himself a great advantage in the match.
The decision to postpone the match was heavily criticized by many as it did not make any sense at the time. Hurkacz clearly benefited from the suspension as he was spectacular upon resumption not giving away any free points. Medvedev tried to outhit him from the baseline but the Russian produced more errors than winners.
In the end he had 8 winners an 11 unforced errors in the 5th set against a bonkers 8-1 winner to error ratio by Hurkacz to lose the final set with 3-6 dropping his serve twice. A bad result for Medvedev when he seemed in control late last night when rain struck.
