It was a very strong comeback from Hubert Hurkacz who found himself down one set before crawling back to win the next two securing a SF spot at the Miami Open.
The start of the match was heavily dominated by Tsitsipas who was very solid from the start. Hurkacz played a bit erratic trying to be aggressive but making too many mistakes. A lot of balls were slammed a bit wide and Tsitsipas quickly amassed a two break lead. Ultimately he would take the opening set 6-2.
After taking an early break in the 2nd set as well he appeared to be cruising an easy victory. But he completely fell apart after that. Hurkacz would go on to pull the break back which boosted his confidence. He started playing much better serving better and hitting balls in the court instead of wide.
All of that coupled with a significant drop off in the level of Tsitsipas allowed him to win the 2nd set 6-3. The final set was a proper battle between the two as Tsitsipas was able to hang on mostly due to some erratic errors from Hurkacz similar to the first set. The Greek still didn't play well and some costly errors caused him to lose his serve.
He would have a break point in the very next game but an unspeakable smash error on it squandered it. That would be the last chance Tsitsipas would have to break back as Hurkacz was able to win the final set 6-4 thanks to some strong serving. The Greek struggled to get the ball into the court giving away many free points and ultimately it proved to be his undoing.
A strong win for Hurkacz who looked all but lost after 50 minutes of play but he was able to take advantage of an unspeakable meltdown by Tsitsipas to reach the Miami Open semifinal.
