Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic is hoping to have a longer in the upcoming Brisbane International. The competition will be played from December 29 to January 05 2025 where some of the top players will going to participate to not only showcase their talent but also to prepare for the first Grand Slam of the year.
Former world number one Djokovic has recently featured in a video that was shared on Eurosport where he talked about the upcoming competition. The 37-year-old, who is regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, expressed optimism of having a longer run in the competition.
“I haven’t played couple of month,” he said. “I finished my season quiet early. Just took some time out to physically recover and get myself in the right shape. I am excited to start a new season with a tournament before the Australian Open. Brisbane is a great tournament. It has always been historically. Attracting some top players in the world. I am looking forward to playing more than one match this week. I have been working hard from last month or so. Its going to take probably a bit of time to get match play going and get a sense for playing official points.”
Djokovic is coming on the back of a rather below-par season, according to his own high standards. For the first time in seven years, the Belgrade-born star failed to win a single Grand Slam in a single season. Not only that as Djokovic was unable to win any ATP event as well. The 22-time Grand Slam winner’s most impressive performance came at the Paris Olympics, where he won a gold medal for his country after beating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
