Rising tennis star Ben Shelton may exhibit an exuberant personality on the court, but the American has admitted he's not as out-going in his normal life.
The 21-year old is one of the success stories of the 2023 season, reaching the US Open semifinals before falling to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Capturing fans with his on-court personality and iconic "phone" celebration, Shelton revealed his real-life attitude is actually quite opposite from that of his tennis persona.
"I am pretty boring when I’m off the court, I don't like to talk too much," he said in an interview with the ATP. "I kind of just keep my mouth shut, like to stay in my hotel room and be by myself. I don’t have too many friends but umm..I like to keep…(laughs). No, uh.. I think my friends would describe me as someone who likes to make jokes, keep things light-hearted. I like having fun and just hanging out and being with people is what I enjoy the most."
The American booked his spot to the semifinals of the Japan Open, where he'll face compatriot Marc Giron.
