Following his semifinal defeat to Jannik Sinner at the China Open, Carlos Alcaraz has taken some time to reflect as he prepares for the 2023 Shanghai Masters.

The Spaniard fell to Sinner in straight sets, but refuses to dwell on the loss. Instead, Alcaraz opted to view his loss as a lesson, and divulged some more lessons he has learned from tennis.

“I cannot make everyone happy," said the World No.2. "I just have to be focused on myself, on being myself all the time. You know, don’t pretend to make everyone happy. It’s impossible. I’m going to say that, just to be focused on myself, being myself all the time, and that’s everything for me."

Furthermore, Alcaraz had a lot of praise for Sinner, stating he was not surprised at the Italian winning the trophy after defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

"I wasn’t surprised at all," said Alcaraz. "I know the capacity of Jannik. I know his level. He’s one of the best in the world right now and he can beat anyone. I’m not surprised about the final.

"So really happy for him, but honestly, I expect[ed] him to win, honestly, because the level that he was playing was unbelievable."
