Taylor Fritz battled
Carlos Alcaraz for the first time last night and it was a tricky match for the American as he was easily overpowered by Alcaraz in two sets.
Fritz has played most players on Tour including the big three but he was very impressed with Alcaraz after the first time they played. The Spaniard dominated the match and it was never close which is quite impressive because Fritz is not easily smashed on a tennis court. He admitted himself explaining that he had more breathing room against the big three:
"I definitely felt like I had more breathing room against those guys (Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic) than in this match."
He added:
"I think that, you know, it's different game styles. Novak will have these long rallies, but he'll kind of slowly get you out of position and overwhelm me. I still feel like I can hang in these rallies for a long time and get more chances to attack."
Fritz struggled with Alcaraz and his aggressive play that left him with very little time to counter:
"I think that I'd go back to the first couple games of the match. He just winner off of a lot of shots, winners and shots that hurt me off of a lot of shots that people normally aren't hurting me off of. I just felt he was more offensive and pressed me a lot more."
