Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that
he has to ‘restrained’ himself from playing certain kind of shots because of
his coach
Juan Carlos Ferrero. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of
the best players currently playing in men’s tennis along with Italy’s Jannik
Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz was recently quoted in a report stating that
he restrains himself from playing certain shots to ensure that his coach is not
angry with him. "Many times I feel more restrained than I should because
of him,” he said. “Because of what might happen to me later. Yes, I notice it,
yes. Every time I do one of those shots that are not supposed to be taken, the
ones for fun, sometimes I don't even look at it because I know that he's going
to give me a slap from the box.”
Alcaraz is going through a fabulous season. The current
world number three started the campaign rather slowly as he was knocked out of
the Australian Open after losing in the quarterfinal to Germany’s Alexander
Zverev with a score of 6-1, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. From there on, Alcaraz has proved to
be rather unstoppable especially in bigger events.
The young Spaniard lifted the Indian Wells event after
beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in straight sets with a score of
7-6, 6-1. Alcaraz then lifted the French Open title for the first time in his
career as he defeated Zverev in the final in a five-set thrilling contest with
a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. That win was even more unique, considering the El Palmar-born star started the campaign with a forearm
injury. Alcaraz’s last and most recent triumph came at Wimbledon, where he defeated
Djokovic in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
