Sebastian Korda raised more than a few eyebrows when he claimed that he's one of the favourites for Wimbledon after a recent win in Queen's but he has since toned it down.
Sebastian Korda made a spectacular return on grass as he'll contest a spot in the Queen's Club Championship final later today. The American has a game that many think is tailor-made for grass and he certainly feels comfortable on the surface as well. After a recent victory in Queen's Korda said that he thinks he's one of the favourites for the event which left many surprised as it's not something he usually says.
After winning another match, Korda walked back those comments admitting that he was a bit too hyped following his win:
"No. I don't know where that came from really. I'm pretty kind of just laid back (smiling). I don't know what I was probably thinking. Just kind of hyped up on the match that I played."
He did speak about the ability to play tennsi which he considers a privilege, especilaly now after dealing with several injuries in his career:
"You know, it's always a privilege kind of being in the position that I'm in. I have a big game, and, you know, I love playing on grass. So who knows what could happen, but I think one of the biggest things is to kind of have confidence in yourself and just to believe in yourself. I think those are the two biggest things that I can do for myself."
To get into the final, Korda will need to overcome Carlos Alcaraz, a player he has beaten before but also lost twice to. The American never faced the Spaniard on grass but many expect him to be the slightly better player on the surface. Not so much overall.
