Emma Raducanu's struggles were pointed out by the former US Open champion who did an open candid interview with The Times saying at times she wishes she wouldn't have won the Grand Slam.
Raducanu since then has seen the pressure piled on and has now tumbled down the WTA rankings, is no longer British No.1 and has just undergone surgery which could see her out till Flushing Meadows this year.
“Since then I’ve had a lot of setbacks, one after the other. I am resilient, my tolerance is high, but it’s not easy. And sometimes I think to myself I wish I’d never won the US Open, I wish that didn’t happen,’’ she said.
But one player didn't sympathize with Raducanu and instead mocked her being French player
Corentin Moutet. "Sometimes I wish I never won Brest Challenger," he tweeted.
Tennis fans did not see the funny side though taking the former World No.51 to task on Twitter.
"I follow tennis very closely and have never heard of you Corentin," one said to which he responded himself: "Then you should buy new sunglasses boss."
A selection of others included: "Emma won more consecutive matches at the US Open than you've won there in 5 years. Pipe down."
"Idk what it is about men getting so turned on by the opportunity to make light of a woman’s mental health struggles."
"She is 20 and got more slam second weeks than you brother."
Another instead of going down the Raducanu route scathed him. "Sometimes I wish you actually played to your potential instead of losing your mind."
Some did see the funny side with laughing and death emojis, but most criticised the Frenchman for making light of Raducanu's struggles.
