Rafael Nadal shut down talk about his return to competition at the Monte-Carlo Masters admitting his confusion as to where that information came from.
Nobody from Nadal's camp ever confirmed that he's making a return at the Monte Carlo Masters yet the information circled around tennis media pretty quickly once it broke. The official information from Nadal's camp was mostly centred around 'we will see' and now the man himself had to dispel rumours that his return is set for that event:
"I don't know who gets this information. Obviously, if it were true, I would confirm it, but unfortunately, I can't. I'm following my course and I don't know when I'll play again, that's the truth."
Despite evading giving any hint of when he's set to return Nadal did confirm that he is ramping up work:
"I'm in a phase of increasing work. If I knew when I was going to return, I would say so, but I don't know. I can't confirm that I will play in Monte Carlo, things are seen day by day. I prefer to say things when I really know them."
He concluded with:
"We continue with the preparation for the return to competition."
