The second round
Roland Garros clash between
Thanasi Kokkinakis and
Stan Wawrinka left thousands of fans on the edge of their seats, among which was Aussie tennis star
Nick Kyrgios.
Kokkinakis prevailed in a marathon five-set encounter that lasted four hours and 38 minutes. Currently at home in Australia recuperating from a foot injury, Kyrgios decided to call it a night during the match, as he was unable to view the clash in it's entirety..
"Going to bed, I don’t want to wake up and see Kokki lose another thriller please," Kyrgios wrote.
However, Kyrgios was in for a pleasant surprise upon waking up, as Kokkinakis fought back to record a 3-6 7-5 6-3 6-7 (4) 6-3 victory. Furthermore, the Australian Open doubles champion acknowledged Kyrgios' tweet, responding with a "Gotchu" following his victory.
"Thanks my bro. I woke up in a good mood….. Pretty cheeky match to win," he wrote in response to Kokkinakis' aforementioned tweet.
