Novak Djokovic continues to improve at the Geneva Open. The Serbian phenom defeated Matteo Arnaldi, taking revenge of an early exit in Madrid at hands of the young italian player. On his 38th birthday, the experienced Nole is one step closer to achieve that coveted 100th title.
Everything seemed to be working just fine for the former world's No. 1 at the Geneva Open, and after a solid win against Marton Fucsovics on his debut, today it was payback time against Italy's Matteo Arnaldi.
Djokovic had another really good performance on clay after those decepointing losses starting this European swing. Little by little, Novak continues to improve just at the right time, ahead of the second Grand Slam year, Roland Garros.
After the match, the 24-time Grand Slam champion was visibly happy to be able to celebrate his birthday with another good win in Switzerland:
"It's great to be in the in the semi-finals again. Last year I played semi-finals. Hopefully this year I can go at least a step further. That's the goal. You know, I think I'm playing really really good tennis."
Today was, as I said, a lot of tension on the court. Straight set win, but it was much closer than maybe the score indicates. Yeah, I was 4-1 down in the second and somehow, I don't know, after that record-breaking I didn't lose the game and kind of found my, I guess, optimal state and balance mentally and emotionally to really be able to play the best tennis when it was most needed. So hopefully I can carry that into tomorrow, " concluded the 38th-year veteran.
Now, Djokovic prepares to face either British Cameron Norrie or Australia's Alexei Popyrin in the semis, determined to keep the momentum going for the two remaining matchups that separates the Serbian from reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 career titles.
