Novak Djokovic will go into Roland Garros without a final or title for the first time and missed his chance for a confidence booster at the 2024 Geneva Open.
Djokovic was crushed in the deciding set by Tomas Machac in a match where he didn’t want to be there realistically by the look of his demeanour. He admitted post match that he wants to forget the match.
But that he is hugely worried about his form going into Roland Garros. He doesn’t see himself as the favourite and is in crisis mode. Also he admitted that he felt awful last night and also during the opening set where he looked physically cooked.
On paper, it looked like the perfect idea for Djokovic to play this week. But it’s left him more questions than answers.
“Of course I'm worried [about his form]. I didn't play well at all this year, except for a few matches here and there. Things are what they are. I don't see myself as a favorite in Paris. I will try to take the matches one after the other.
I didn't have a great night, and today it was difficult. I had horrible sensations during the first set of the match. I don't want to take any credit away from Tomas (Machac), who deserved his victory, but I don't know what to think of this match. I prefer to forget it”
