Rennae
Stubbs shared her thoughts on the separation of
Holger Rune and Boris Becker,
expressing her availability to coach the young talent. The current tennis
commentator brings previous coaching experiences with the 23-times Grand Slam
champion Serena Williams and former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova.
On Tuesday,
February 6, Rune and Becker announced their parting after four months of
collaboration, marking another setback for the Danish player, who has struggled
to establish a stable coaching relationship. Stubbs' offer to step in as a
coach could provide Rune with an opportunity to regroup and enhance his skills
on the court.
Holger Rune reflects on coaching changes
Before
teaming up with Boris Becker, Holger Rune also collaborated with Patrick
Mouratoglou, the former coach of Simona Halep and Serena Williams, among
others. However, their partnership lasted only 10 months, ending after Rune's
early exit from the US Open during a challenging period for the 20-year-old
player.
This time,
Rune's association with Becker lasted merely four months, even though the
German coach had made a positive impact in improving Rune's tough 2023 season
under Mouratoglou. Following their split, Rune shared his thoughts on the
separation through an Instagram post:
"As
you know, I have tried many coaching constellations over the past 12
months," he said. "It has not been easy to find the perfect match in
the first attempt. I have worked with the same coach for 15 years my entire
tennis life."
"I
have learned a lot and found out what is important for me to feel good and at
the same time develop. I have big ambitions and big goals, and I need people
around me who have the same visions and who I can trust to achieve my
goals," the World No. 7 said.
Rennae
Stubbs extended her coaching services to Holger Rune through social media. She
tagged Holger Rune in a post and expressed her availability to work with him
again:
"@holgerrune2003
I have some time up my sleeve," Stubbs wrote.
