It has been another solid campaign from world number five
Taylor Fritz, who has cemented himself as one of the best tennis players on the ATP circuit.
The American has won two titles and reached a Grand Slam semi-final so far in 2025. While building on a hugely impressive 2024 season, he has not been able to match some of his best results, which included reaching the final of the US Open and ATP Tour Finals, in both cases losing to Jannik Sinner.
Recently, he was asked by the
Tennis Channel to rank his top five matches of 2025, which includes a pair of Wimbledon five-setters, and a 'crazy' match against a former Grand Slam finalist in the States.
Fifth - Final in Stuttgart
Fritz has been known to be a dangerous player on grass. His big serve and baseline game make him a formidable opponent on the surface, and he proved that after he won his first Tour title of the year. Off the back of his first opening round defeat at Roland Garros since 2018, he swept aside everyone in his way to clinch the title. Quentin Halys, Marton Fucsovics, and US Open semi-finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime were beaten without dropping a set to set up a final against world number three Aleznader Zverev 6-3, 7-6(0) to win his first title in
Stuttgart.
"The Stuttgart final, Fritz said. "That’s going to be on the board somewhere. It was my first title of the year, so I’ll put that at number five.

Fourth - Wimbledon second round
After Stuttgart, Fritz went and won his fourth title in Eastbourne. This put him in great shape to challenge for the Wimbledon title. His first-round game is coming up shortly, Fritz decided to rank his second-round match against Gabriel Diallo just below it.
Fritz fell behind in the first set after being broken late on, but found a late break of his own in the second set to level the scoreline. The pair are two big servers, as they kept trying to nick an important break to keep them ahead.
The third set stayed on serve with no break points on offer, as Fritz won the tiebreak 7-0 to put him through to the third round. However, Diallo was not done yet. He sneaked ahead in the fourth set and utilised his big serve efficiently to force a last-leg decider. The American managed to get the job done in another crazy match at SW19, but it was not the first one.
Third - Wimbledon first round
Before he set up the tie with Diallo, Fritz had to get past his first-round opponent. It would be a tricky opening round match, as he faced the 6'8" Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The match took two days to complete, and had the same number of breaks throughout in a battle of who could serve the biggest.
The asnwer was Mpetshi Perricard, who served a 153 mph serve to record the biggest serve in the history of Wimbledon. He still failed to win the point and would go on to lose the match.
He won the first two sets with the aid of a tiebreak, as Fritz blew multiple set points. However, he stuck with it and managed to claw his way back into the match, breaking in the final game of the fifth set to love to send him through, to the relief of the American. "This one was a really crazy match. I probably should have lost it, honestly, but three feels like a good spot for it," he said.
Second - United Cup final
Fritz kicked off the year in fine fashion, winning four of his five singles matches in the United Cup. The highlight was in the final against Polish star Hubert Hurkacz, where he clinched a last-leg tiebreaker to seal glory for the United States after Coco Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek just before.
"The United Cup final. That has to be up there because it was such a big match, and it was in the finals. So I’ll put that at number two."

First - Miami Open quarter-final
Maybe quite surprising that Fritz has selected this at the top of the list compared to what else he has achieved this year, but on pure excitement and drama, it is hard to argue against. He faced former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini. The match took over two and a half hours, but could have ended a lot earlier if Fritz had managed to take one of his six match points he ended up squandering in the second set. He eventually got the job done with a late break of serve to send him through to his first Masters 1000 semi-final of the year.
"Me and Matteo in Miami. I thought this was the best, the craziest match I played all year," Fritz said. "The most fun, the best energy. I just remember playing it and thinking, 'Wow, this is insane.' So that’s my number one."
