With the Laver Cup increasing in popularity each year, former World No.1 Andy Roddick revealed he would have loved to participate at the event and even created his ideal Team World roster.
The 2023 edition of the event saw Team World dominate their European counterparts to win the tournament for the second year in a year. Although Team Europe lacked several of it's top superstars, they were still handily defeated by the more enthusiastic members assembled by Team World.
As the Laver Cup was conceived in 2017, several players missed the opportunity to participate in the event. Former World No.1 Andy Roddick admitted he would have been thrilled to represent Team World, even going as far as creating a roster filled with stars from his time.
“I think I would’ve loved the format,” said Roddick. “I kind of look back and it’s always fun to see, you know, ‘what if the Laver Cup would have existed 20, 25 years ago.
“2001 it would have been Pete (Sampras), Andre (Agassi), Guga (Kuerten), Pat Rafter. I might not have made that team, I was a little late that year. That would have put them in a nasty team. Maybe Team World is the favourite there!”
Roddick, alongside event founder Roger Federer, have been rumored to take over as Team captains in the foreseeable future.
