Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in the Master's final to lift his 10th Internazionali BNL d'Italia trophy.
The Spaniard produced a stellar effort to take down the world number one in three sets and lift his 10th Rome Masters trophy. With the win, he tied Djokovic at 36 ATP 1000 Masters titles bringing the H2H score against him to 28-29. After the match he said:
"It's a very satisfying [victory]. It's amazing [to] have the trophy with me again one more time here in Rome. On the 10th, I really wanted this 10th here in Rome. It was one of the first important titles that I won in my career."
Nadal has been picking up form slowly over the past few weeks which he admitted after the match:
"I think I have been playing better and better with my forehand the past couple of weeks, getting to the confidence point. [There were] moments [that] I could change more times down the line than what I did... But the positive thing is the winners and the solutions with my forehand have been much better than the past couple of weeks."
For Nadal, peaking in form will be key with the Roland Garros moving closer. The Spaniard is defending the title and defending it successfully is very important to him.
