Jannik Sinner was very close to beating Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open but the Spaniard was able to complete a spectacular comeback win in a match that lasted over 5 hours.
It was a crazy match with an incredible level of tennis from both players and Sinner had a chance to close it out, a few chances actually. Sinner served for the match in the 4th set, had a match point but lost the game and the set to go the distance. He was up a break in the final set but fell apart later to lose the match.
Alcaraz could not explain what happened:
"I still don't know how I did it. The level I played, high quality of tennis. It's unbelievable. I always say you have to believe in yourself all the time. Hope is the last thing you use. I believed in myself, my game."
Alcaraz also briefly praised his opponent who nearly beat Alcaraz for the 3rd time this year and second time at a grand slam:
"Jannik Sinner is a great player. As everybody could see, his level is just amazing.”
The chance to win a gnrad slam is not hte only thing Alcaaz is playing for as he can become world number one if he reaches the final.
