Nick Kyrgios knows he missed a real opportunity to win his first Grand Slam singles title 😡💥 #USOpen | @NickKyrgios
Nick Kyrgios has been issued the largest fine of the US Open so far for smashing two racquets on the court following his loss to Karen Khachanov.
Nick Kyrgios was devasted by his loss to Karen Khachanov and he took out his anger on the racquets smashing two of them after shaking hands with the Russian. Kyrgios quickly left the court leaving the smashed racquets there and the USTA did not take lightly to it. They issued a $14,000 fine which brings his total of fines at the event to $32,500.
He was fined earlier for swearing and spitting on the court. The fines will matter little to the Australian as he earned $473,200 of total prize money with his run to the Quarter-final. He was asked about it after the match and simply disregarded it explaining that it only matters whether he wins or loses.
“All people remember at a Grand Slam is whether you win or you lose. Just feel like it was either winning it all or nothing at all, to be honest. I feel like I’ve just failed at this event right now.
