Daniil Medvedev played a very good first match in Turin that saw him overcome a first set loss against Hurkacz to win the next two. Hurkacz himself played a great match and the only reason Medvedev lost the first set was that Hurkacz was soo good. The Russian explained after the match that he was never truly under pressure in the match:
“I had zero break points to save, so in a way I was never under pressure. I had only two games on Hubert’s serve where I had break points. Super happy to make this work and [that I] managed to get both breaks.”
Medvedev noted that the match went by rather quickly due to the quickness of the surface which Medvedev called tough:
“Really tough to play here. One good shot and the point is over."
The Russian did find a chance to engage the crowd after a brillaint point and asked about that he said:
“I remember this point because that’s the only point in the match where I could actually interact with the crowd a little bit. Other than that, it was aces, winners, and unforced errors.”
