The first match will be a prestige match between Swiatek and Badosa as the Polish player has no chance to move on but she can avoid going 0-3 at the event. For Paula Badosa, staying healthy is the most important thing in this match as she already booked her spot in the WTA Finals. The match is set to begin at 21:00 CET and it's really hard to see how Swiatek can win this.
She has been playing underwhelming tennis so far at the event even getting overwhelmed by the magnitude of the event in the first round. The Spanish player looked far more comfortable on the court and generally played better.
The main event though will happen a couple of hours later. At 02:30 CET we will see Maria Sakkari battle Aryna Sabalenka. Both of these players defeated Swiatek and lost to Badosa which means the winner of this match will move on to the semifinals. It's a very polarizing matchup between two players that have some of the same weapons.
A good serve, strong groundstrokes, and newfound confidence in 2021. Sakkari has been playing more consistent tennis in the past few weeks but the Greek player showed a tendency to fall apart when it matters the most. Sabalenka on the other hand never gives up which could do her well if Sakkari has one of her moments. Either way it's a can't-miss match so be sure to tune in.
