Cameron Norrie revealed during the
ATP Cup that he contracted the virus in the offseason that cost him about a week of practice.
Norrie returned to action at the ATP Cup where he and Dan Evans are leading team Britain. The British player spoke to the media after their win over Germany and in the interview, Norrie revealed that he contracted the COVID-19 virus in the offseason. The positive test came over the festive season but Norrie did not feel any symptoms explaining:
"'I had no symptoms, I was very fortunate."
The positive test did keep him sidelined for about a week as his body fought off the virus quickly thanks to him being immunized with the vaccine. After testing negative, Norrie resumed training for the season with his return coming against Zverev. While he lost that match he underlined that the team won which is what matters:
"The team win is most important. We all did our job today."
Playing Zverev is something that Norrie is happy about as he understands that matches like that one will help him in the long run. He highlighted the importance of the ATP Cup by saying:
“I think these are exactly the matches I want to be playing leading
into the Australian Open, and no better way to do it. It's
going to be tough, but [I’m] really looking forward to it… I think I'm
feeling good physically. [I'm] really enjoying my tennis. That's been a
big factor. [I’m] really looking forward to hopefully backing it up
again next year."
