Stefanos Tsitsipas played a brutal match in the ATP Cup against Diego Schwartzman ultimately losing in three sets.
The Greek player spent nearly three hours battling Schwartzman and after the match, he did not sound too thrilled about having to play such a long match. He explained how he is not sure how his elbow will react to such a long match explaining that he felt a lot of pain after his doubles match a couple of days ago.
He said:
"I really don‘t know how I’m going to feel tomorrow. That was one of the biggest concerns if I was going to play this match today, how the recovery is going to be tomorrow. I finished the doubles [on Saturday] and the next day I couldn’t serve. I was in a lot of pain.”
The Australian Open is still 14 days away with the starting date set for January 17 and Tsitsipas admitted that he should have enough time to recover by then. He also noted that he never experienced that so he could not confirm whether it really would be enough:
"That is enough [recovery time], I believe. But I haven‘t had [this kind of injury] before, so I don’t know. It’s my first time experiencing something like this.”
As of now, Tsitsipas is set to play at the event but if his recovery does not go as he expects it to go, there is a chance he might miss the event.
