Nick Kyrgios remains confident of achieving 'big things' with partner Naomi Osaka at US Open mixed doubles event

Australia’s Nick Kyrgios believes he and Japan’s Naomi Osaka are capable of doing ‘big things’ at the US Open mixed doubles event. The fourth and last Grand Slam of the year will be played in two parts in August this year. The first part of the competition will feature the mixed doubles event, which will take place on the 19th and 20th, while the rest of the competition will begin on August 24.

The mixed doubles event, which will be a stand-alone event for the first time, will have prize money worth $1 million to be shared between the winning pair. One of the pair will be Kyrgios, who will team up with former world number one Osaka.

Kyrgios has recently appeared in a TNT Sports show where he spoke about his chances in the upcoming competition. Kyrgios was of the opinion that while all the buzz has been created by the pair of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Britain’s Emma Raducanu, he remains confident that he and Osaka are capable of achieving ‘big things’. Kyrgios also went on to appreciate the authorities for finding a way to make the doubles event more interesting this year.

"As a doubles Grand Slam winner - it definitely doesn’t have the same ring to it as a singles Grand Slam winner - but with all these amazing pairings, I think it’s a great innovation for the sport of tennis," said Kyrgios. "What other sport in the world can you have your favourite female athlete play with your favourite male athlete and compete for prize money and a Grand Slam trophy? So pairings like Raducanu and Alcaraz, they’ve created such a buzz around the sport and my partner, Naomi Osaka, I think we can do some big things. It’s an incredible event for tennis. The US Open mixed doubles is going to be something special. There are so many incredible pairings, it’s a great innovation for more fans to watch and watch their favourite players play together."
