Naomi Osaka, the four-time Grand Slam champion, voiced her frustration with media coverage following her third-round elimination at Wimbledon. Osaka was defeated by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets, expressing deep disappointment with her performance, despite being close to reaching the second week of the tournament.
Just weeks prior, after her exit from Roland Garros, Osaka had already shared her disappointment, comments that were widely circulated in both traditional and social media. She stated, "I hate disappointing people. So even with Patrick (Mouratoglou), I was thinking this just now… But he goes from working with the greatest player ever (Williams) to, like, ‘What the f— this is?’ You know what I mean? Sorry for cursing, I hope I don’t get fined, but…”
This time, Osaka's press conference was once again filled with frustration. She reflected on her belief that she was capable of going much further in the tournament. "I’m just going to be a negative human being today. I’m so sorry. I have nothing positive to say about myself, which is something I’m working on,” Osaka said.
The former world No. 1 recently took to social media to respond to a post that highlighted her comments from the press conference. The Japanese tennis star criticized the media for emphasizing her words when she loses, while seemingly ignoring her press conferences after victories.
“Bro why is it every time I do a press conference after a loss the espns and blogs gotta clip it and put it up. Wtf, why don’t they clip my press conferences after I win? Like why push the narrative that I’m always sad?” Osaka wrote.
