Frances Tiafoe battled hard but that was not enough to overcome Carlos Alcaraz who proved an ironman once more winning in five sets.
It's a brutal end to Tiafoe's campaign that saw him mesmerize the New York crowd for days. Tiafoe enjoyed his best run at a grand slam but it ended in the semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz and the American was very emotional after being granted a chance to speak after the match:
“This one really, really hurts. Too good from Carlos. You’re going to win a lot of Grand Slams, you’re a hell of a player, a hell of a person. I’m happy I got to share the court on such a big stage with you. I am going to come back and I will win this thing one day. I’m sorry guys.”
Tiafoe was more composed in the post-match press conference but still disappointed about the defeat. He did accept it gracefully adding that tennis won that night which is a nice way to compliment Alcaraz and accept he was simply the better player:
“Obviously I would have loved to win tonight. But I think tennis won tonight.”
