Novak Djokovic suffered a devastating defeat at the 2021 US Open leaving him very emotional after the match for several reasons.
Many were unsure of Djokovic and his intentions regarding the rest of 2021 with the Serbian himself not offering much after the US Open loss. It was clear he was going to take some time off and spend it with his family especially after explaining how much he misses them during the US Open. Federer's coach Ivan Ljubicic was asked about Djokovic and he said:
"I would love to see Djokovic at Paris-Bercy and the ATP Finals in Turin, but I wouldn't be surprised if he decides not to play for the rest of the season."
It was widely believed Djokovic would at least play those two events but a few days ago he also confirmed he would attend the Indian Wells Masters next week which surprised many considering the rather short layoff since the US Open and the event. However, Djokovic might be motivated by wanting to keep his status as the number one player in the world as Medvedev is not far behind.
Ljubicic also touched upon the big 3 and 2022 saying:
“It will be interesting in the next big tournaments to see if the Big Three will win titles again or if everyone will stop at 20 Grand Slams. I think they will remain competitive but we will have to see if they are able to win in five sets against the young players who already stand out like Berrettini, Zverev, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Rublev.
