Tennis fans have the opportunity to get their hands on a piece of history, as a racket used by Swiss legend Roger Federer at a Grand Slam final has been put up for auction.

According to TMZ, a media outlet, one of the rackets used by the 20-time Grand Slam champion in the 2011 French Open final is up for auction. Federer faced long-time rival Rafael Nadal in a highly anticipated final, and was hoping to become the first man in tennis history to achieve a double career Grand Slam. However, the Spaniard proved to be too formidable, prevailing with a four set victory.

Racket price currently sits at close to $20,000

TMZ reports that the racket has been put up for auction by Goldin, the leading collectibles marketplace that serves as a platform to trade authenticated sports, pop culture and other rare collectibles online.

"This is a Wilson Six One Tour tennis racquet used by Roger Federer in the French Open final against Rafael Nadal on June 5, 2011. Federer signed the racquet being offered, adding his fluid signature in black marker to the white handle," reads the description.

The racket has apparently been verified, leaving no doubt to it's authenticity. With the auction set to end on Sunday, so far four bids have been made; $15,000, then $16,000, then $17,000, and finally $18,000. Although it currently sits at $18,000, there is little doubt that the price will see a significant increase before the deadline.
