Emma Raducanu is currently in action in a match which could see Great Britain seal their spot in the
Billie Jean King Cup Finals. The former US Open champion brought them back on terms with a win over
Caroline Garcia with Diane Parry now awaiting her in the second match. But she made a hilarious mistake during her win over Garcia.
She went over to the net at 5-1 in a lapse of concentration thinking she'd won. But her only thought process was not adding to the embarrassment by going on to lose the tie. She went on to seal it 6-2 and with Katie Boulter also winning this afternoon seeing off Clara Burel gives Raducanu the chance to claim it without doubles. So in reality, an embarrassing error yes but one that brough Great Britain back into a winning spot.
“It was quite embarrassing,” said Raducanu of her mistake in her on-court interview. "All I was thinking was, ‘If I lose this right now, I’m going to look like a right muppet’. I’m very happy that I managed to pull it through.
“I was completely the underdog, especially going out here in her house, on clay. I definitely turned it around. I fought really hard, I dug in. That was a really good test for myself because I hadn’t had those level matches very often. I’m very pleased with my performance and I’m very, very happy to bring this point home for the team and go into tomorrow 1-1.”
