Russia’s Daniil Medvedev has admitted that he was less of a ‘disrupter’ in 2024 due to the sheer dominance of Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. The 28-year-old is often regarded as one of the most underrated players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.

Medvedev, over the last few years, has remained in the discussion for going all the way in big competitions and challenging the likes of former world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. 2024, however, was not a great one for the 2021 US Open champion as he failed to win a single title despite playing in the final of a couple of events.

His most impressive outing last year came at the Australian Open, where he finished as the runner-up after losing to Sinner, despite leading two sets to love at one stage, in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Medvedev has been recently quoted in a report where he talked about his performances in the 2024 edition. The world number five admitted that he was as much of a ‘disrupter’ last year compared to seasons before and expressed his desire to reach the same heights once again in the upcoming campaign.

“I would say a bit less. Why? Because I didn't manage last year, except the Australian Open, I was less of a disrupter because Carlos and Jannik were beating me a lot of times,” he said. “A lot of tournaments I was getting to the good stages but not able to beat them. I would like to become again, I don't even know this word, but let's say disrupter, because it means that I will be able to get to these later stages and win them. Again, at this moment they're clearly the favorites, and that's normal. I try to develop something, and let's see if it works. As I say, last year I could see that it's not enough, what I'm doing against them, so I'll try to improve.”
