Ilya Ivashka smashes Mikael Ymer for maiden title in Winston-Salem

Ilya Ivashka capped off the best tennis week of his life by smashing Mikael Ymer 6-0 6-2 in the Winston-Salem Open final.

After several years on the Tour and after a very solid 2021 year Ilya Ivashka finally won his maiden ATP title. The Belarussian player never reached a final before but his performances in Winston-Salem this week have been exceptional. Such was his performance in the final against a tired Mikael Ymer who was also playing in his first final.

The Swedish player has done great all week long including a comeback win over Carlos Alcaraz last night but today he was simply overmatched to put it lightly. Ivashka came out strong destroying Ymer from the baseline as the Swedish player was left helpless.

The opening set lasted only 21 minutes ending with a bagel for Ivashka who had all the answers. The 2nd set more or less started off in the same manner with Ivashka taking an early break from Ymer 2-0. Embarrassment was avoided when Ymer finally got rid of the zero at the scoreboard but it only lasted for a while as Ivaskha took a double break lead.

In the end, the match ended with a 6-2 2nd set win for Ivashka who took only 56 minutes to complete the match. A great week and a well-deserved win for Ivashka who will debut a new career-high ranking on Monday as well.
