Russia’s Andrey Rublev believes it will be interesting to see how former world number one Andy Murray reacts to Novak Djokovic's reactions towards his supporting staff. The 37-year-old is regarded as one of the greatest British players in the history of tennis in the singles category, having won as many as three Grand Slam titles, including two Wimbledon titles on home soil.
Murray, who recently retired from professional tennis after struggling with fitness concerns for a long period of time, has joined the former world number one Djokovic in his coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season. The Belgrade-born star, who is regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, has had a difficult 2024 season according to his own high standards.
It was the first time in seven years that Djokovic failed to win a single Grand Slam in a season. His only triumph in 2024 was winning an Olympic gold medal for his country in Paris, where he defeated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the singles category event in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. Those performances led Djokovic to change his coaching staff, and he ended up hiring his former opponent and world number one, Murray.
Russia’s Rublev has been recently quoted in a report where he stated that it would be interesting to see Murray’s reaction as Djokovic has a tendency of making nasty comments towards his coaching staff during a match. “It’s going to be fun,” he said. “Andy was that type of player who liked to make nasty comments to his team sometimes. It’s going to be interesting to watch because Nole can be very emotional on the court and can also make nasty comments to his team sometimes. I’m looking forward to seeing how Murray reacts in those situations.”
