"I'm not worried, it's going to be exciting" - Goffin on tennis when Big Three retire

Belgian tennis star David Goffin says that despite the sadness that will come from the retirement of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, he believes that the future of the sport is in good hands.

All of the ‘Big three’ are currently facing periods of uncertainty and difficulty in their respective careers, raising questions as to how long are they going to continue playing. Djokovic also faces problems of his own due to his vaccination status, having only been able to participate in two tournaments all season. Most recently, at the Monte Carlo Masters this week where he suffered a shock loss to World number 46 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round. former world number seven David Goffin believes that when the day does come for them to retire it will be a sad day for the tennis world, but there is a lot of talent ready to take their place.

He said:

“Of course, when Federer and Nadal stop, it will hurt. We are lucky to have known this generation. I was able to play against them, and I can even say that I beat them at least once, all of them. It was amazing.”

Goffin pointed out that tennis is in good hands and it will also be exciting to see what happens:

“But I’m not worried, because it’s going to be very exciting. We will have new Grand Slam winners, new players will be at the top once Rafa and Djoko are gone, and younger players will rise very quickly, like Alcaraz. Maybe Sinner will do as well. There will be lots of new stuff. When Sampras and Agassi retired, everyone said it was going to be a disaster, and you saw what happened.”
