It has perhaps not been the tournament that Ion Tiriac and the
Tiriac Open Bucharest organisers wanted as like others not indoors this week, heavy criticism has been levied towards the tournament which returned for the first time since 2016 with
Federico Coria in particular not holding back on social media.
Conditions have been criticised as slow and also weather has not helped the cause similar to Munich and Barcelona at times. Coria lost out to Francisco Cerundolo in the second round. He went on to lose to Mariano Navone who is on the verge of setting up a final with Marton Fucsovics.
Coria though took to X and quipped why did Estoril Open get binned off for this in pretty scathing criticism as well as detailing the issues that he has had throughout the tournament with light and conflicting verdicts on rain. The Estoril Open was canned as of 2025 after its last edition in April with the ATP Calendar being altered accordingly going forward. But with conditions not being great this week, a spotlight has been shone more than ever before.
"Imagine if the Bucharest tournament happened in South America, there is no light, yesterday it did not rain and could not finish the day," said Coria on Twitter.
"Played the first and second game today (translation) because there were no more courts to play all at once, now they are playing against, if it drags on it will be suspended. Another thing is incomprehensible that Estoril disappears and this tournament remains."
