Jack Draper curtailed his season after the US Open.
The 2025 Macau Tennis Masters is set to be held form December 27-28 with a strong lineup set to compete in the exhibition event. However, there has been some high-profile changes in its ranks with Jack Draper and Jakub Mensik pulling out through injury. Ugo Humbert and Yibing Wu have been drafted in as their replacements.
The event held in Macau is a popular event for players to get up to speed with their game, boosting match fitness and sharpness in a relaxed environment as they prepare for a hugely important start to the 2026 campaign, where the tournaments come quickly. While it is the perfect place to build on the foundation some players have created in the off-season, it seems to have come too soon for the Sunshine swing champions.

Draper and Mensik pull out of Macau Tennis Masters

It is a huge blow for the tournament with these two talented players forced to remain on the sidelines a little longer. They have opted not to take the risk with the Australian Open commencing just a couple of weeks after from January 18 - February 1.
British fans are still awaiting their number one to make a highly anticipated return to action after a bruised humerus has kept him out of the second half of 2025. Draper first felt the pain at Wimbledon, losing to Marin Cilic in the second round in a disappointing showing. He would then skip the majority of the North American hardcourt swing to preserve his vulnerable arm. The 23-year-old made a return at the US Open, looking to defend a semi-final he achieved the year prior. After his first-round victory, he would announce the news that he would withdraw from the event, sitting out the rest of the year as he looked to towards 2026.
Along with the competition in Macau, he was shortlisted for the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final, but both events came just too soon. He will be hoping to be in pristine condition for his debut alongside fellow British number one Emma Raducanu in the United Cup in Australia.
Mensik has also had his injury troubles in recent times. After skipping the Paris Masters due to a foot injury, he competed for his nation in the Davis Cup Finals, as Czech Republic lost out to eventual finalists Spain. He was in line to make a return to the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, but the 20-year-old pulled due to medical reasons, as per the ATP. It seems that he is not ready to venture back onto the court in Macau. Similar to Draper, Mensik is also set to make his debut in the United Cup, teamed alongside two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Humbert and Wu ready to step in

Waiting in the wings are two ready-made replacements. Humbert also struggled with injuries at the end of the season. After losing in the final of the Stockholm Open, he retired from his semi-final clash against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Swiss Indoors. This kept him out of the Paris Masters, where he was defending a final. He made his return in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final, and will be looking to build on that in Macau.
Yibing Wu will also look to make the crowd go wild. He became the first ATP Tour level champion from China back in 2023 and arrives fresh from winning the men's singles gold at the National Games of China last month.
He will join Mirra Andreeva and Davidovich Fokina on Team Conchita, while Humbert will partner Alexandra Eala and Juncheng Shang on the Li Na team.
