Injury forces Milos Raonic to withdraw from Canadian Open: “I don't think I would have been able to be competitive”

Milos Raonic withdrew last minute from the
Masters 1000 Canadian Open. The Canadian was set to play on Tuesday night on
the Centre Court but suffered a shoulder injury that prevents him from taking
the court against Holger Rune.
The former world No. 3 was going to appear in
Montreal for the first time since 2019 thanks to a wild card from the
organization, and although he made a final effort to get on the court, he
ultimately had to confirm his absence. The Spanish player Roberto Bautista Agut
(No. 72) will replace Raonic in the main draw.
Raonic pulls out of Canadian Open
The world No. 180 had a popcorn match scheduled
against the 13th seed Holger Rune in Montreal, but a shoulder injury prevented
him from playing tonight. The withdrawal comes a week after his participation
in the Olympic Games.
Raonic was present in Paris 2024, where he
suffered a first-round loss to Dominik Koepfer (7-6, 6-7, 6-7) in singles. He
also played doubles with Felix Auger-Aliassime, but they were defeated in the
debut by Americans Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz.
“I tried to warm up for my match today. The
thing that was the most difficult was to serve,” Raonic said. “I don't think I
would have been able to be competitive by any means. I can manage a lot of
things, but without serving, that would be a tough day for me.”

“It came up initially right when I came here on
hard courts after the clay,” Raonic said. “I was playing points the other days,
and I was kind of having a similar feeling. Took some days off trying to feel
better about it. It just wasn't anywhere close to where I need it to be.”
After Raonic's withdrawal, it was announced
that Jakub Mensik would replace him, but ultimately, former world No. 9 Roberto
Bautista Agut will take his place as a lucky loser. The Spaniard lost in the
last round of qualifying a few hours earlier to Thanasi Kokkinakis.

- Sabalenka began showing signs of her game gradually 'changing' since last season. I predicted her fascination with posting endless Selfies, participating in commercial media distractions and constant Social Media nonsense could impact her in a negative way. Her off-court Life was sure to interfere with her performace level. Visions of Raducanu, Giorgi, Bouchard come to mind. The Final yesterday was a weird case of polar-opposites. Sabalenka and Rybakina could not be any more different in personalities! Saba often portrays a somewhat fake persona, including her Phony Screaming. Her usual habit of acting like the nice girl with a sense of humor is a misconception. People take her lack of intellect as "cute" and "funny". So anyway... yesterday viewers witnessed that Fake Scream be reduced to a whimper and sometimes no vocal gymnastics at all once she knew the jig was up. We all saw her look into the camera post-match and say "F... You". Also, pretty hard to not see Saba making untoward facial expressions, rolling her eyes, etc., behind Rybakina while on the podium. Elena Rybakina, on the other hand, was her usual 'in-control' self as she spoke clearly and calmly, without making faces nor any ill-will toward anyone = 100% Class Act. Lena appeared more than aware of Saba's sour attitude and made a point of not looking in her direction most of the time. FWIW: I have never -- not ever -- heard Sabalenka make any sounds on practice courts. So it is indeed a nonsensical ruse as she thinks (incorrectly) it affects opponents. It does not. In fact, as was the case yesterday, I saw Lena occasionally take a side-eye glance at Saba on her way to the bench... as if to calculate her emotions. - WTA and ATP cannot even make their dope testing equal and precise across the board. They sure as hell cannot escape a stituation they themselves made over the ridiculous "penalty" of omitting a player's country flag. Nothing regarding which flags to display (or not) should be a Thing. It proves nothing; solves nothing.
